With the economy still troubling a lot of us and the growing trend for ethical and eco-friendly living becoming ever-popular, the so-called ‘stay-cation’ has been in the news for the past couple of summers.  It’s no surprise then, that more of us seem to be choosing to holiday in the UK, with travel experts reporting a 17% drop in visits abroad in June 2009, which was arguably the sunniest and warmest month of last summer.  Plus, the Met Office’s prediction that this summer could very well be the hottest on record in the UK promises to help the stay-cation become even more popular in the warmest months of 2010.

Of course, a lot of people are choosing to go on holiday closer to home to save a bit of money; caravanning holidays are a much cheaper alternative to relying on hotels and B & Bs, and they give you greater freedom to explore different parts of the UK at a pace that suits you.  So, whether you already own a caravan or motor home or you’re thinking of investing in one, adflyer have found some of the best holiday destinations the UK has to offer, so take a look!

St Ives, Cornwall is one of the most famous of the county’s seaside towns, and has so many great attractions to please all types of holiday makers.  For all you beach bums, the recent £100m ‘Clean Sweep’ campaign has put St Ives’ beaches amongst the cleanest in Europe, and the waters are perfect for a leisurely paddle.  For those who like a bit more activity, there’s everything from the oh-so cultured Tate St Ives to family theme parks to relaxing coastal walks to keep you entertained.

Brockenhurst, Hampshire is a great destination to park up your caravan, camper van or motor home.  Brockenhurst boasts some beautiful forest walks, ponies and deer for the kids to admire and nearby towns such as Lymington, Bournemouth and Southampton if you fancy exploring the coastline a bit.  You’ll also find fantastic food from a wide range of pubs and restaurants in Brockenhurst, great museums and family theme park Paulton Park to keep the kids happy.

Castleton, Derbyshire is a fantastic destination for those who fancy a good wander.  Located in the very heart of the beautiful Peak District National Park, there’s a veritable plethora of picturesque walks suitable for all ages and abilities, as well as a whole host of great value caravan sites for you to park up and rest your weary feet.  Castleton also boasts some great attractions to explore including Peveril Castle and Speedwell Cavern, making it the ideal place for an adventurous family or couple to spend their holiday.

Edinburgh, Scotland is surprisingly caravan friendly.  The bustling cultural hub of Scotland is home to a whole host of caravan parks with locations ranging from the city centre to the leafy and more subdued outskirts.  Once you’re here, there are so many great things to do you’ll be spoilt for choice!  From the Edinburgh Festivals, to Edinburgh Castle and even city tours, there’s something for everyone in this fantastic city.

The heyday of petrol-head friendly prime time TV shows may be over, but it seems that a lot of us haven’t forgotten the great cars we used to watch our TV heroes speed around in.  In a recent poll carried out by Kwikfit, 18.4% of those asked named the talking car from Knight Rider (known as KITT), as the TV car they would most like to own.

Out of all the cars that made the top ten, there are some true classics that take you back to when their TV shows were first on air (or to the repeats if you’re too young to have seen them the first time round!).  For those growing up in the sixties, “The Saint”’s Volvo P1800 and the Batmobile made the list, while the eighties kids will be pleased to see four of their favourites on there too: the Ferrari Testarossa from “Miami Vice”, the Ferrari 308 from “Magnum PI”, the Dodge Charger from “Dukes of Hazzard” and the GMC Vondura van from “The A-Team” all made the top ten.

However, there were one or two cars missed off the list which were a huge part of my TV time when growing up, and which I’d love to take for a spin!  For instance, the Reliant Robin from “Only Fools and Horses” was an integral part of the hapless high jinks of Del Boy and Rodney Trotter and added so much to the comic genius of the show.  Another car from TV past which I always loved watching was the car from “Brum”, a 1920s Austin 7 convertible, which in my opinion, would be great fun to drive!

So, what do you think?  Do you agree with the top ten TV cars, or is there another car that you think should’ve made the list?  While you’re having a think about it, why not take a look around adflyer to see if you can find your dream car?!  Our motoring section is getting bigger and better every day with our trusted sellers uploading great new cars all the time, but you can also find a huge range of vans, motorcycles and scooters and even camper vans for sale on adflyer if cars aren’t your thing.  So get searching today, and you might just find the perfect car for you with adflyer.
